Giving and Receiving

As we work towards greater balance in our personal relationships, communities and society as a whole, this topic of what constitutes reciprocity, “fairness”, sovereignty and support is commonplace. There seems to be this classic dynamic of the “giver” and the “taker” that we are working to remove from our programs of what relationships are.

Whether spoken or unconscious, the element of giving can come with an expectation of receiving. In the moment we may feel fully free in our giving; but, if after some time, it is not reciprocated, or not appreciated in the ways that we were hoping, we find ourselves in a position of resentment, feeling small, feeling used, etc.  Most of us have likely been on both sides of this.

When experiencing this dynamic, on either side, there generally is a sense of imbalance within. The inner gyroscope can feel off, sometimes subtly, other times blatantly.  If we tune into this sense of imbalance and can examine with objectiv...

When cravings hit, it can fuel inspiration and motivation for delicious healthy culinary creations. Granola has been on my mind, thus rather than buying at the store, which usually contain too much sweetener, and other ingredients I prefer to avoid, I decided to craft my own.

This granola contains a variety of nuts and seeds, with just a few touches of natural sweetness. The combination results in a blend rich in Zinc, Magnesium and other trace minerals, as well as Vitamin C, Healthy Fats including plant based Omega-3s, Antioxidants, and other Phytonutrients. This collection of ingredients is high in Fiber, Protein and relatively low in Carbohydrates.

I soaked all the seeds (except for the chia), overnight to reduce phytic acid which can inhibit nutrient absorption. This also begins the sprouting process, which supports ease of digestion and increasing the bioavailability of nutrients. Low Heat Dehydration helps the nuts and seeds to be a bit more crispy and dried out in nature, w...

The following video is an interview with Dr. Jessica. Dr. Theresa Nicassio is the author of the award winning book Yum: Plant Based Recipes for a Gluten Free Life.  We highly recommend this book as it is not only full of delicious, healthy recipes, but also written with the intention to empower and inspire creativity and joy in the kitchen and beyond. You can find more information about Dr. Nicassio and her work on her website:https://www.theresanicassio.com/

In the interview we discuss some of the benefits, considerations and cautions for those interested in the fasting experience.  Over the course of 2 years, Dr. Renfer supervised 3 week-3 month deep fasting, detoxification and rejuvenation experiences in Hawaii for clients in various stages of their healing journey. The experiences gained during that process has inspired this next venture with Medica Sage, bringing the insights and practices available to more individuals, with online and in person programs specifically tailore...

Nature Inspires that which is desiring to be Awakened.

No one knew how or when anyone arrived

It was nothing less than the culmination of various

scattered daydreams and unexplained deja-vu.

Something in each of them had brought them to this place,

a release from the inside out,

a spectacular collision of mind, spirit and fantasy.

They see nothing but each other,

their bodies fold and intertwine,

trying desperately to melt into one another.

She is rising and sinking with the subtle encroaching waves,

forcibly bound to the warm breathing earth.

There is a painter among them,

quietly blending nature and vision,

yet, the colors do not obey the motions of the brush,

instead, they swirl and bleed and sink into every crevice.

Do not disturb the beauty, is the message, paint with me, not in despite of me.

The little one is perched high in a throne,

carved out by the melting of diamonds.

From this height things look rather different.

The evergreens sway to the breath of every living thing,

You know you are on the verge of something beautiful

when tears well up so freely and powerfully

tears of joy and of sorrow,

tears of relief and of forgiveness.

I am waiting, it is coming, to believe that quiet voice within that whispers:

Yes, you are enough

Yes, you are on your path

Yes, you are magical

Yes, You are Love.

Validation from the outside touches the part of my heart that wants to be loved,

knowing all the while that this love must blossom from the inside out.

These tears wash away that which has clouded this knowing

That love has been within me all along.

I have nothing to fear in being vulnerable.

Wide open hearts are strong and full and unconditional,

They cannot be hurt, for all is as it is meant to be.

Contained within that open heart is all of the joy and sorrow and pain and relief,

all of it, all is beautiful,

all is part of crystalline rainbow of this human experience.

How fortunate that we get to experience this existence on so many planes,

the pleasures of this physical...

This year has been one of transition, of truth being revealed, we are being called into greater authenticity. One of the challenges in life can be the disconnect between motivation and dedication.

We create goals and make promises to ourselves and to others. As above so below, and how we treat ourselves is reflective of how we treat others, and how in turn we allow ourselves to be treated. But that is a topic for another day. The focus of today is promise and dedication to the self. The challenge for many, including myself, is keeping up with higher vibrational life choices in a world that is seemingly wired to swallow us back into habits built out of unconsciousness, addiction and complacency. Gentleness with the self is vital, but there is a difference between gentleness and excuses.

I found myself feeling a little less than optimal, something was just not quite right, my digestion was off, my meditation practice was waning, I was feeling slightly anxious and lazy. Having t...

The raspberries are blooming

and poke mamma resides in the row.

Taking care, and contributing to the conversation,

Mycelial filaments carry the current,
